The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office invites applications for Control Room Operators. Our Control Room Operators serve as an integral part of the correctional team working in the control room and front desk areas of the Jail. This position offers the opportunity to learn the inner workings of a Jail by working in a secure location away from inmates. No prior experience is required to be a Control Room Operator; all training is provided. This position can be an excellent kick start to a career in corrections and law enforcement!
SALARY: $21.42 - $23.64 Hourly

How You Will Make an Impact:
Our Control Room Operators keep track of everything that is happening in our Jail! We train our team to operate modern, sophisticated Jail management software to control staff and inmate movement throughout the facility. They assist officers by responding over phone and radio and providing verbal direction for inmates. Control Room Operators help the public by scheduling visitations and court appointments, looking up information in our crime data systems, processing paperwork and collecting fees for warrants, and answering general questions. People who thrive in and enjoy this job have strong computer skills, are organized and detail-oriented, and know that giving good customer service means having patience, understanding, and a desire to provide an accurate and timely answer.
What You Need to Succeed in this Role:
High school diploma or GED plus one year of recent experience using a PC based computer system, accurately and rapidly. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process. Ability to multitask and perform detail oriented responsibilities. Must maintain ability to be a credible witness in court. Ability to learn and apply the policies and procedures of law enforcement operations. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, other agencies, and the public. Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
Though not required to be considered for this position, an associate's or bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field, experience working in corrections, and/or knowledge of legal terminology is a plus.
